Rebuilding Pivnichna Saltivka
Residents of Pivnichna Saltivka were among the first to experience all the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Months of relentless shelling and bombardments, with nearly 90% of the residential buildings in the district destroyed, forced thousands of people to evacuate.

Among them was Ms. Liubov, the heroine of the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) report. She shared that after three months of evacuation, she returned because her heart ached for her home.
In their story, Japanese journalists highlighted the important project “Emergency Grant Aid for Winterization and Housing Support for Vulnerable Groups in Ukraine.” With funding from the Japanese donor From the People of Japan and UNOPS, restoration of multi-apartment buildings damaged by hostilities was carried out in Pivnichna Saltivka. The coordinating partner of the project was the Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv Charitable Foundation.

“This project was recognized by UNOPS as the Project of the Year in 2024. It included the replacement of windows and doors, roof and façade repairs, as well as restoration of interior damage. Our foundation worked with residents of seven multi-apartment buildings, ensuring coordination throughout the process,” said Oleksandr Varyvoda, Head of the International Partners Department of the Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv Charitable Foundation.
Together with our partners, we are helping Kharkiv residents return to their homes.
