A Safe Space for Children Opens in Izium

This is more than just a hub — it’s a space of safety, care, and growth. A new children’s center has officially opened in Izium, made possible through the partnership between UNICEF and the Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv Charitable Foundation.

Creating such spaces is especially important for frontline communities, where the lack of offline education makes socialization critical for children. Today, around 22,000 people live in Izium, including about 2,000 children under the age of 18.

“Here, children will be able to explore their talents, develop, and feel the support they need. They’ll enjoy games, creative workshops, entertainment activities, and both individual and group sessions with a psychologist,”
says Yanina Matvieieva, Head of the Izium Branch of the Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv Foundation.

Visitors to the hub emphasize that no kindergartens are currently operating in the city, so children come to the center with great enthusiasm — it’s not just a place to learn and play, but also to make new friends.

The initiative is implemented by Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv with support from UNICEF, the Government of Norway, and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.
